The Curse of Oak Island.......as our day continues.....July 14th, 2019

After Peggy's Cove, we headed off to Oak Island. John and I have been watching "The Curse of Oak Island" for many years, and when he told me it was near Halifax, I told him I wanted to see it.  Back home in May, I tried to book a tour but they had all booked up when they opened up the 2019 schedule in March. I was constantly checking their web page to see if something opened up, but we were not that fortunate.

While driving on the road that leads to the causeway, there are No Parking signs posted all over the place. At first I thought that we might not be able to go over the causeway because of all this signage. One person even spray painted on their fence, "This is the Real Curse of Oak Island", I assume they were talking about the traffic on the small road leading to the causeway.

We were able to drive over the causeway and go into the Oak Island Interpretive Centre. We spent some time there looking at and photographing the exhibits.

The famous Oak Island Memorial

These are doors on the interpretive center, but not the ones you use to enter.

Another view of the causeway.

A reproduction of the stone found in the Money Pit.

I am keeping this photo even though it is blurry.

This is the suit that Dan Blankenship used when he dove down Borehole 10-X.

Various artifact found on Oak Island

I don' t remember seeing these shoes on the show!

The infamous lead cross.

The top pocket finds of Bobby Dazzlers. I remember the top brooch, but not the Victorian Portrait Brooch.

It was so cool to see all the artifacts that have been found on Oak Island. Although I am not sure that they will ever find any treasure here. If there was any treasure buried here, I think the cabbage farmer found it all a long time ago!

From the signs, you can see that they are filming on the island.

From there we headed off to Mahone Bay to grab a bite at the Mug and Anchor, the pub where the men of Oak Island sometimes meet for a pint.

This is where they guys sit and drink while talking about the finds of the day!

On the way out, who was at the bar but metal detection expert extraordinaire, Gary Drayton! At first I took a few photos of him from a distance, pretending to photograph the bar area, but as I was leaving, I asked if I could take his picture and he graciously agreed.  He asked if I wanted one with him and I although  hate having my photo taken, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. He was very gracious. We chatted a bit. He asked me my name and what brought me there. Upon leaving, he said it was a pleasure to meet me. What a nice guy! My day, my week, my trip to Halifax was made!

And believe it or not, I got up enough nerve to ask  him if it would be alright to take his photo!

Next we headed to Lunenburg. We had heard that the Bluenose might still be there, but it already left for Halifax. We explored this quaint town and took lots of photos in the historic waterfront district.

After that, we headed back to the hotel, returning around 7:20. Too tired to go out to eat. We walked next door to the local Axe Throwing establishment and got some food to bring back to the hotel. Prices for throwing were reasonable, but the place was empty except for a couple from New Orleans.

It is our last full day in Nova Scotia, and it looks to be a lovely day at that. We decided it was too far to head to Cape Bretton this tri...
